Water-Based Adhesive

What are Water-Based Adhesives?
Water-based adhesives, also known as waterborne adhesives, are a type of adhesive that is dispersed or dissolved in water as the primary carrier or solvent. These adhesives are formulated using a combination of polymers, additives, and water.
In response to the trend of green chemistry in place of solvent-based products, we have developed functional water-based emulsion pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) products that come with several different features such as having less odor and low volatile organic compounds (V.O.C.).

Advantage & Features of Water-Based Adhesives
Environmental friendly:
Water serves as the primary carrier in these adhesives, reducing or eliminating the need for organic solvents that can be harmful to the environment and human health.

Non-toxic and safe:
Water-based adhesives are generally non-toxic and non-flammable, making them safer to handle and use.

Adjustable properties:
The formulation of water-based adhesives can be adjusted to achieve desired properties such as viscosity, drying time, and bond strength. Additives can be incorporated to enhance performance characteristics like heat resistance, flexibility, or adhesion to specific substrates.

Types of Water-based Adhesives
There are several types of water-based adhesives, each formulated for specific applications and substrates. Here are some common types of water-based adhesives:
Emulsion Adhesives:
Emulsion adhesives are made by blending polymers in water to form a stable emulsion. The polymers can be acrylics, polyvinyl acetate (PVA), styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR), or ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA). Emulsion adhesives are versatile and widely used for bonding porous materials like paper, cardboard, fabric, and wood.

Vinyl Acetate-Ethylene (VAE) Emulsions:
VAE emulsions are water-based adhesives that contain a copolymer of vinyl acetate and ethylene. These adhesives offer good adhesion to various substrates, including paper, wood, and plastics. They are commonly used in woodworking, packaging, and construction applications.

Acrylic Emulsion Adhesives:
Acrylic emulsion adhesives are based on acrylic polymers dispersed in water. They provide excellent adhesion to a wide range of substrates, including plastics, metals, glass, and composites. Acrylic emulsion adhesives are known for their high strength, durability, and resistance to heat, chemicals, and UV radiation. They find applications in automotive, electronics, construction, and assembly industries.

Polyvinyl Acetate (PVA) Emulsions:
PVA emulsions are water-based adhesives that contain polyvinyl acetate polymers. They are commonly used for bonding porous materials such as paper, cardboard, fabric, and wood. PVA emulsions offer good initial tack, ease of use, and are often used in woodworking, crafts, and general-purpose bonding applications.

Pressure-Sensitive Adhesives (PSAs):
PSAs are water-based adhesives that remain permanently tacky at room temperature. They are characterized by their ability to bond instantly upon contact with a substrate and provide good adhesion without the need for additional activation or heat. PSAs are commonly used in labels, tapes, and graphic arts applications.

Hybrid Water-Based Adhesives:
Hybrid water-based adhesives combine different polymers or technologies to achieve specific properties. For example, hybrid adhesives may combine acrylic and polyurethane components to offer high strength, flexibility, and water resistance. These adhesives find applications in demanding environments such as automotive assembly and marine industries.

These are just a few examples of water-based adhesives, and there are many other formulations available to suit different bonding requirements. The choice of adhesive depends on factors such as the specific application, substrate materials, desired bond strength, environmental conditions, and regulatory considerations.

Applications of Water-Based Adhesives
Water-based adhesives can bond a wide range of substrates, including paper, cardboard, fabric, wood, plastics, and foam. They offer good adhesion properties on porous and non-porous surfaces alike. Products exhibit balanced performance of peel adhesion, cohesion, and initial tack. Versatile products such as permanent type, removable type, or glue can be eliminated by water after temporary bonding are available and can be used in different application temperature.

Our products are suitable for tapes, labels, construction, assembly, and other industrial applications.
